Backing up my photos

My phone has crashed and has got lines crossing all over it, and the Apple Store has said that its expensive to repair and they wouldn't recommend it since my phone is an old brand and is getting old or will crash someday anyways. So I at least want to back up all the photos by putting them into my laptop, but when I use the iphone charger to link my phone to my laptop and when I go into files and open "Shanaya's Iphone", it only goes to a file saying Internal Storage, and that file is empty. So unless I literally one by one send all those photos to my laptop which I am not going to do, I don't really get how to get them onto my laptop. Is there a way to still transfer these photos onto my laptop?
