Carplay compatible battery case!?

I just got an XR and the apple barrery cas for it, but my apple carplay doesn’t seem to work through the battery case port, which is a deal breaker for me. I can’t find any information about their intended compatibility to know if I should keep trying or give up. Help!!

iPhone XR, iOS 12

No, I sometimes get a "USB ACCESSORY," "Unlock iPhone to use accessories," notification on the home screen when I plug it in, but it's not consistent. And when I then unlock the phone, then my carplay shows a "downloading contacts..." status, but then that's it. It's basically connected the same way it would if I just used bluetooth, not the full carplay menus. Car is a 2017 Ford Fusion.

I'm using the lighting cable that came with my XR, so I don't think it's a cable issue. Has apple not publicized anything about the compatibility!? Again, if I knew for sure that it SHOULD work, that would resolve the issue for me because then I could move on to the appropriate next steps. Right now, I'm just trying to find that information, but I can't seem to find it. :(

Have you tried calling Apple Support?

Well, I was hoping to find an answer from the community, but calling them at this point made sense. So I did. After about an hour and a half, they still actually couldn’t tell me! Three levels of increasingly expertise and apparently Apple never thought to clearly state whether or not the battery case would work with CarPlay. Lol. Not even internally. But props to all those people I spoke too as they were really trying to figure it out.

Eventually the engineering guy asked if the case was showing if it was charging in the car, so I went down to try again and....CarPlay came up!! So that’s was a bitter sweet moment. The guy was just totally confused and now I’m just hoping it keeps working.

I mean eat the fact that it worked at all probably means it was designed to be compatible, so I’m hoping no more problems, but I’m still shocked Apple hasn’t stated that anywhere...to anyone.

So, They’re still looking into it and are going to email me with what they can find because after that whole ordeal me and the three people I dealt with were all curious.

Glad to know I wasn’t crazy and just missing some obvious answer somewhere. With that said thanks for replying and helping me through it. :)
