2013 Mac Pro ECC errors and no USB

Hello,

I have some weird problems with my 2013 Mac Pro and would like to know if there is a possible fix for a reasonable cost.

First one is ecc errors on memory modules. Usually on one module first but eventually on all of them.

The other (related?) one is: I loose the USB ports (all other ports still work) and have to reboot the machine to get them working again. Lately this happens so often, that the machine is practically unusable.

No matter which memory module is placed in which slot, the situation is eventually the same, but the computer tends to function longer if I only use two modules instead of all four.

Weird thing is, that none of these problems appear, if I boot Windows from the external (thunderbolt) drive.

Mac Pro is 6core / 16GB RAM/ 256GB SSD / D500 ... all stock components.

Would love to see any reply/advise from you, if you had encountered this kind of problems before.

Cheers

Mac Pro, macOS 10.14

You have some invasive, unsigned drivers for Huawei devices (or possibly an Android Phone) loaded at startup and running at all time. If you are not actively using these, they should be removed.

RE: Memory modules.

When a modules is detected as not working, it is BAD. If you do nothing to it and it tests good the next time, that does not mean it is good, it just means "no fault found".

For the H drivers they are here

Startup Items:

    HWNetMgr Path: /Library/StartupItems/HWNetMgr

    StartOuc Path: /Library/StartupItems/StartOuc

If the item in not under the Startup items for your User in System Preferences>Users and Groups, trash the startup item in the path above.

Also, do you have problems when you disconnect the external TB drive(s)?

I am unable to find that in the report, but yes I had an app for a Huawei LTE stick. Don't have it any more, but according to what you said the drivers are still there and I have no idea how to locate and remove them.

So your advice is to replace memory modules with new ones?

Here is a crash report from yesterday night, if that provides any additional info:

Thanks for all your help.

ECC Errors happen when more than one bit has flipped by itself in a single module, AFTER MacOS has loaded. Based on component complexity and heat, it is most likely to be caused by Bad modules or overheating, NOT by bad slots (that said, there is some finesse to installing these modules in the Mac Pro 2013 slots).

Is the main fan running at normal speeds?

If ECC problem does not occur while running Windows, that could just be an accident of what Addresses are used, or it could be that you have additional Mac software or malware loaded that is causing these problems. to check that, download Etrecheck "discovery" Utility and post its report using the "report" Icon on the forum.
