S/MIME certificate COMODO RSA Client Authentication iOS

PROBLEM:

iOS 12.1.4 mail client can not read encrypted mail

The certificate is functioning on macbook air 10.14.3 apple mail client

SETUP

1. iPhone 6 iOS 12.1.4

2. apple mail client

3. s/mime certificate COMODO RSA Client Authentication and Secure Email CA

4. The certificate is visible under

- settings/general/profile

- setttings/passwords & accounts/mailclient/account/advanced/sign (trusted)

I have removed, then installed both mail client and the certificate without luck. Help is much appreciated.

I understand from your post that you have not been able to read encrypted emails on your iPhone. While you have done some troubleshooting the issue persists. If you have not already, make sure you have turned on the Certificate Trust Settings as described in the article below:

Simon,

The Mobile Device Management tool is usually used by your IT department so they can update multiple devices. You may need to contact your IT department so they can reinstall the certificate for you.

Under "Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings" I only see

Trust Store Version 2018121000

There is no section

"enable full trust for root certificates"

I see that Apple recommends installing the certificate using Mobile Device Management (MDM). Is this tool available from Apple ?

Based on the answers to this post it seems that the certificate needs to be installed by the apple tool MDM.

Any idea what private users do with no access to IT department?

Hi Simon,

What type of email account is it? If it is a personal email account and not a work email account, you may need to contact the email service provider for assistance. If it is a work email account then you would need to contact your employer for assistance.
