Does a lightning to 30-pin adapter fit a dock for an iPod Classic

I have an old analog stereo system. It includes a dock for an iPod(or iPhone) which connects to the receiver. I have an old iPod Classic placed in the dock. Because the newer iPhones(iPhone 7) have a lightning connector, they don't fit into the cradle. If I use the apple lightning to 30-pin adapter(MD823ZM/A), will the plug in the cradle accept the 30-pin adapter. or do I need to have a different arrangement if I want use a newer iPhone in the dock? The dock provides particularly good sound, so I prefer to keep it instead of setting up some other alternative.

Any help would be much appreciated

iPhone 7, iOS 12

Yes, the adapter should fit in the dock and then the iPhone will perch on the Lightning connector.
