My dad is actually getting the watch in UAE. I was wondering if the cellular version would work in the Philippines. I don't really get how this works, so if anyone is kind enough to explain below that would be really great!
There are two versions of the Series 4 GPS + Cellular. One is North America and the other is everywhere else. It is possible certain features may not work due to local laws. Here are some links that may help - watchOS - Feature Availability - Apple
You could get the LTE version but without network support it will work exactly like the GPS-only version, making all its communication over the Bluetooth link to your iPhone. The iPhone will provide data service to any model Apple Watch, providing you have the phone on cellular data.
As welafever says, you will get better value for money with the GPS-only version, it is pointless paying for cellular functions which are not supported by your network.
You are better off getting the GPS only version.
I am aware that there are currently no available carriers in the Philippines for the watch. I am just wondering if it would do me anything good if I still buy the Apple Watch Series 4 with the cellular option.
Would I still be able to connect to my iPhone's LTE even if I choose to go with only the GPS or would I need the cellular feature?
If I buy Apple Watch Series 4 with GPS and cellular abroad, would it work in the Philippines?
