iMovie music copyrights

Can I use imovie music for commercial use also? It's only a school project with minor sales, but we are told to be very thorough with copyright things. I couldn't find the license anywhere.

iMovie legal from March 2019

http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iMovie.pdf

On page 2 of the English version:

"The Apple Software contains sample content including but not limited to graphics, audio clips, video clips and/or templates (“Sample Content”). This Sample Content is proprietary to Apple and/or its licensors, and is protected by applicable intellectual property and other laws, including but not limited to copyright. Except as otherwise provided, all Sample Content included in the Apple Software may be used on a royalty-free basis in your own video projects but may not be distributed on a standalone basis."

We aren't lawyers so we will let you make of that what you will.

I suspect that is also the document to which I provded a link for the online version. 2G was the paragraph I quoted.

midoral:

Note, there is a distinction between "standalone" and incorporation of features in a video. I interpret this as Apple not wanting you to distribute a CD made up of iMovie sound clips.

A conversion similar to this one took place a few years ago. The license read slightly differently but it sounded the same. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7424607?answerId=29642404022#29642404022

Note, what you can do may depend upon the version of iMovie you are using.

Okay, I have already spent 10 minutes running all this down, so enough.
