IPod Classic no longer supported in Win 10 iTunes?

Title says it all. I sync'd my iPod Classic in iTunes with a Win 10 OS and not only did it not add music I wanted it to it WIPED the entire iPod clean. I can understand if the iPods are no longer supported, but to wipe out everything that was already on it is beyond deplorable. Any info is appreciated.

Windows, Windows 10

Syncing an iPod with a new empty library will replace the content on the device with the empty library. iTunes will even warn you. Your device should never hold the only copy of your media. It should be in an iTunes library on a computer which should also be backed up. See Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community, the first section deals with media recovery. It may be possible to recover erased files, or it could be that the files are there and hidden, and the database got corrupted as it was being written so the device appears empty when it isn't.

Yes, however the main problem right now is going to be those pending sectors. If they are part of a song then when you try to play it the iPod can just give up and go to the next one, however if they hold part of the device's database which now cannot be read then the device is likely to freeze and/or reboot at random. You're going to need to restore the device, but first you should try to recover any media that you don't have in your local library.

Didn't get any warning that something was going on until I sync'd the iPod and then saw that it empty. After that, next time I connected it to the PC via cable, iTunes saw the iPod but said that it could not be accessed. That was a few months ago. Now, giving it another try, and when I connect the iPod via cable, iTunes FREEZES immediately, regardless of what was happening in the program (Podcast refresh, etc). Nothing in iTunes can be accessed until I unplug the iPod.
