Ad Free Words w Friends app install

Salvete Omnes,

I just found an old version of Words w Friends (from 2013 or so) in a backup of my iTunes library that I had stored on an external HD, and I believe this is an ad-free version. I cannot bear playing the current version of the game due to the flood of ads that Zynga throws at me, and I was wondering if there was a way to install the .ipa file on my phone. I no longer see an option for syncing apps with my iPhone from iTunes. Any suggestions?

Delete any copy of the app already on the device. Drag and drop the version you have from Explorer to the device where it appears in the iTunes side bar. See Managing apps with iTunes 12.7 or later - Apple Community for more.

Awesome! I didn't know this was possible. When I tried to do it, I was informed that "this version of the app does not work with this version of iOS," so, alas, I can't install it. Thank you for your help, though!
