is there a difference in the laser tracking between the original Magic Mouse and the Magic Mouse 2?

Is there a difference in the laser tracking between the original Magic Mouse and the Magic Mouse 2? Or really, I guess the question is "should there be a difference". The reason I ask is that I have one of each and use them with two different computers on the same desk. The original Magic Mouse tracks like a charm. But my new Magic Mouse 2 won't track very well on this desk. If I put down a piece of paper on the desk and use the mouse on that, it works fine. So it seems like something is different between the two mice that has an impact on how they track on this particular surface. I did a little bit of googling and didn't see anything online about the optics or electronics changing in the version 2, just the battery going internal.
