Transfer photos from USB to iPad Pro

I’m trying to transfer photos from my old iPhone 4s to my iPad. I have the photos saved to a usb drive and have the usb type A to usb C adapter for the iPad. Is there a way to transfer the photos other than using iCloud?

There is a way to do it directly from the USB drive, but several factors needs to be taken into consideration:


  1. The USB drive may need to be connected to a powered USB hub, otherwise it may trigger the "uses too much power" warning from the iPad if its connected directly to it. Some USB drives may work directly, but its been my experience and that of others around here that most just trigger the warning.
  2. The photos need to be in a folder called DCIM that is directly on the root of the USB drive.
  3. The photos must be in a supported format and have file names that are 8 characters long with a 3 character extension. i.e image001.jpg (this should not be an issue, as they come from an iPhone, and should be set as such. )


If all 3 are successfully met, the iPad should detect the drive and bring up the import screen.
