I switched to an iCloud account years ago, but iMessage keeps asking for an old gmail password. The gmail account isn’t recognized by Apple anymore. How do I get this “undone?” I’m already signed out of iMessage - and it won’t let me sign in until I enter the gmail password, which I don’t have and can’t get.

Can you go to Messages/Preferences/Accounts, to see if the Gmail account shows there, and if you can delete it?
Thanks for your suggestion. I can’t get past the sign in message to get to Preferences.
I did end up contacting Apple Support - glad I did, as there was some sort of glitch. I think we got it taken care of, but had to restore my iPad Pro.

Apple Support by e-mail or chat Work through the screens to get a chat option. You may need to pick a problem that is slightly different than yours to get a chat option.
