removing activation lock

this phone is linked to a previous owner who doesnt have the password for icloud and its activation locked now. i need to unlock the activation lock and restore it

Have the previous owner try to recover the password.

Enter their Apple (iCloud) ID and click Forgot Password.

Apple ID - Manage

Apple ID – Forgot Password

Then have them do the below.

Selling/Giving Away Device
