I just realized hundreds of my notes have disappeared. I had critical information stored in those notes and it is gone now. How might this have happened and is it possible to restore them? I believe they were on my iCloud.

After about 5-6 long support calls over the span of the last two weeks, floating around to diff support staff and engineers thinking this was never getting resolved and my notes were lost forever. My Notes reappeared on my device! Curiously not on iCloud, but that doesn't matter because I could immediately back them up. I agree with what most everyone has said before, call support and be patient but persistent. Because of how time consuming it was I almost bailed yesterday, but instead thought this am just to open Notes one last futile time, then poof. Like everyone else also said I have no clue what the cause was, but at this point don't care. Marcia from Apple Support was also incredibly patient and I plan on emailing folks at Apple to recognize her effort. I can go in to a lot more boring tech details so just ask if anyones interested? I'm also thankful to the folks on these threads that take time to post, because without that and knowing like a lot of these types of tech issues (I work in iT) are not an isolated experience I might not have been as patient or persistent? It was also refreshing to know that I wasn't the only one putting a lot of data into iNotes without enough backup (outside of iCloud?!:) Anyway, thanks!

I have the same issue and have tried everything already in that support article. Clearly this Notes issue is happening to a lot of folks. My Notes suddenly were wiped off my iPhone8, and simultaneously wiped on the iCloud backup. Only Notes were effected, nothing else in iCloud. Restoring from the only iCloud backup available just restores an empty Notes app. I even checked on my iCloud linked iMac (current OS) and the Notes are there for a second but then erased/wiped by the iCloud backup.
Any advice is appreciated.
