getting the f310 to work - finally! Needed to post answer in case anyone else needs it!
Nothing worked until I tried this:
Set it to D
Before you plug in the USB cable hold the logitech button down
Keep it pressed while you plug it in
Voila now it works - no software needed!

No, you are missing something. That page was Logitech, not Apple. I wasn't asking Apple to support anything.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of people have been trying to use this gamepad on a Mac.
This "undocumented" feature was originally proposed by someone replying to others about the Logitech F710, which people were also having issues with. His solution posting was lost under the hundreds of others who were also complaining that it didn't work. I had originally tried replying to the group but it wouldn't let me until I posted.
Which is why this whole conversation has somehow gone sideways...

It would help to know what device you are talking about.....
LOL I had posted this in the Logitech F310 discussion - It's a USB gamepad. Sorry for the confusion, my bad - sort of lol.
Nice add but note the stated lack of Mac support
Sorry, maybe I am missing something here, but why do you expect Apple to support a third party game pad?
