Why would my location be different that what it actually is? I am changing my password, but it comes up and tells me that my ID is being used on a apple device in Monroe, LA, but this MacBook Pro is not located there.

For some reason, my Macbook Pro seems to be showing my sign-in location in Monroe, LA, but I am located in Colorado. Each time I try to update my password on this MacBook, a alert comes up on my other devices as saying a Macbook is attempting to sign in in Monroe, LA, but this device is not there. Why would it show the wrong location? Could it have been hacked somehow, and there is another Macbook that has replicated mine?

I just wanted to make sure that someone else was not using my Apple ID to log-on. It took me a little while to figure out that it was just me logging into, or changing my password on this Macbook.
My location is correct in Apple maps, Find my Iphone, etc., so my location services seems correct on the laptop.

This is an approximate location based on the IP address the device is currently using, rather than the exact location of the device. The location shown might reflect the network you're connected to, and not your physical location.

If you know you’re the person trying to sign in but you don’t recognize the location shown, you can still tap Allow and continue signing in.

However, if you ever see a notification that your Apple ID is being used to sign in on a new device and you're not the one signing in, tap Don’t Allow to ensure the sign in attempt is blocked.

This is not always under your control—

Most typical in satellite service provider— always being optimized for the best connection on an otherwise slower service. At best, the location information presented is an approximation at that point in time.

The internet backbone is a complex web of connections always trying to optimize end user experience.

This can be quiet different from a cable service where you have a dedicated modem with a known IP address.

You can try again later if the Geolocation is keeping you from completing a certain task.

You can try and make some adjustment >System Preferences>Security & Privacy
