I know how to block calls coming after an unwanted attempt.
How do I block a message/phone number after an unwanted message is received?
iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 12

Open the received message.
Tap on the sending avatar (top-center)
Tap on the "i" in blue circle
Tap on the ">" at right side of the blue phone symbol
Last option at the bottom should be... block contact.
