how do I sync my mac calendar to my phone
I can't seem to sync my macbook with my iphone XS

Are both signed in to the same Apple ID, also is your calendar content under “iCloud” or “On My Mac”.
For syncing to happen the calendar content needs to be under “iCloud” and you need to ensure Calendar is enabled for iCloud under Settings on both iPhone and Mac.
