Where are model numbers shown

Amazon and other places list these types of model numbers A1706, A1707, A1989, A1990 for the MacBook Pro. Where can I find these model numbers on the computer? Shouldn't it be in About This Mac or System Info on the first page like around here

  Model Name: MacBook Pro

  Model Identifier: MacBookPro13,3

  Processor Name: Intel Core i7

  Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 8 MB

  Memory: 16 GB

  Boot ROM Version: 254.0.0.0.0

  SMC Version (system): 2.38f7

Thanks very much.

Hi Tom,

The model number is usually on the case bottom nearest the hinge but is printed in a Lilliputian font so tiny you need a lens to see it. Apple uses a descriptor like "MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2015)" as the standard for model identification. I have no idea why resellers have to use something different.

The free app MacTracker is probably the easiest "magic decoder ring" for making sense of resellers' adverts when they stray from Apple's well-established naming conventions. It is in the Mac App Store:

‎Mactracker on the Mac App Store

On the opening page for each model it shows the various model identifier names, EMC numbers, order number codes, and other such trivia for everything Apple every made. Example:

I would have a hard time participating in these forums as long as I have without MacTracker.
