lost an iphone in a foreign country

while visiting family abroad, i left my phone in a taxi on the way home from the airport and now it's lost. it's still on (because it was nearly fully charged when i lost it) however i never got the chance to connect to wifi, so even when i use Find My Friends it says that my device is offline. i was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and is it possible for it to be found despite it not being connected to any sort of service or internet. thank you in advance
