Contact Profile Pictures

I have an iPhone 8+, currently running ios 12.1.3. I have this little problem where when I try to change the profile pictures for my contacts, after I crop the image, it is automatically moved down (in the small circle it is displayed in). For example, if I have a normal, front facing image of someone and I put their face in the circle, the image, after being submittted, will move down to see the neck/chest area. I have the image within the circles’s boundaries, so I don’t know what’s going on.

Not sure if this is the same issue or not, but the “fix” what when the image shifted to go into iCloud Contacts and edit it back.

Personally I’ve always pre-edited any image to a square format before adding to the contact, whether that’s in macOS or iOS, doing so has never resulted in seeing this particular issue.

Hope this helps.
