I don't think the glass is the issue though. Siri hears me when i hold down the home button and types very accurately what I said. I've checked accessibility, siri &search settings to no avail. Did anyone ever find a solution to this?

Who fixed your new glass?
Can you access the Internet via cellular and/or Wi-Fi?
Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Otherwise bring it back to the repairer.
A local shop I consider reputable. Yes, I can use the Internet in both situations. Siri hears me using the home button, sound and speech work fine for phone calls. I just get nowhere with setting up "hey siri"....
