i updated to iso 12 and my mail notifications will not show up on my screen. I have done all the suggestions, nothing. It will vibrate or sound, but the screen stays black and I have to fully go into my email to see what I have received.

Check your notification settings on all your email accounts once again.
Settings > Mail > Notifications > [Select Each Account} > [Set up Notifications]

Did all that, do no disturb is turned off. I shut off notifications and turned them back on, reset network settings and restarted my phone.
Did that, everything is checked and notifications are on
