I have no idea where you are checking. Try here-->Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support. IMEI and Serial Number should agree. If you look carefully at the IMEI and MEID (in Settings/General/About) they should be almost the same. The only difference is the IMEI has one more digit at the end. If they are not the same you don't have an iPhone.

You can also check the model number. Just google the model number and it will tell you what kind of phone it is.

You should be able to tell the difference between an iPhone X and a 5S just by looking at them.

Be careful. An Xr, Xs and Xs max have 2 IMEIs, one for each of the two SIMs /eSIMs they can support. They will have only one MEID, however. The MEID will only near match the first of the 2 IMEIs in the About dialog. The 2nd IMEI will match the first 8 digits of the first; the remaining digits will be different.

But I agree; it sounds suspicious.

MEID is used for CDMA networks, IMEI for GSM networks. all iPhones have two (or more) models: most are GSM only, the other GSM+CDMA. If you have a GSM-only model there will be no MEID. Only people who bought an phone to use with a CDMA carrier (e.g., Verizon and Sprint in the US) got the GSM+CDMA version. Phones sold outside of the US do not have CDMA.
