I have a brand new MacBook Air that only has two very small ports. the Apple Mouse only came with a cord that has one small end for the mouse and a standard usb end which won't go into either of the two very small ports on the computer. How do I get the computer and mouse to pair in this situation?

The cable isn't needed for pairing, it is for charging the mouse, but you will need a USB 3 -> USB C dongle to plug it in when the mouse needs charging.
