Pairing Mouse to NEW MacBook Air

I have a brand new MacBook Air that only has two very small ports. the Apple Mouse only came with a cord that has one small end for the mouse and a standard usb end which won't go into either of the two very small ports on the computer. How do I get the computer and mouse to pair in this situation?
