Using Tiered Numbers in a contract document

I am hoping that there is a way to reference a tiered number within a document, such that if the tiered number is altered, then the reference to it is also altered.

For example, I am involved in writing a contract that has content which references other clauses. If sections are added or removed, then the tiered numbers update, but so far this means I have to go through the document, find every reference to a clause, and manually change it.

Is there a way to make a reference and have it change automatically if the tiered number it is pointing to is changed?

An example:

2.3 Nothing in clause 1.7 shall be considered to be in conflict with this clause 2.3

Now... if I add something before clause 1.7, the tiered numbers change... but I want the text which references those to also change.

"It would be useful to be able to do that…" items are no within the purview of those participating in this user-to-user community.

Gp to the Number menu, choose Provide Numbers Feedback, and make a feature enhancement request.

Feedback items are read by Apple, and if deemed useful or interesting, are sent on to the product development team for the product that would get that feature enhancement.
