deleting mass emails by date

Is there a way to delete a large amount of emails by using a date range? I have more than I want to individually click at this point. Thanks for any insight!

Sort by date:

—select the first one, move down a batch at a time, hold the shift key and select the last one. This will highlite everything in between.

—Holding the command key down you can continue to select or remove.

—select at least one, command A will select all

Depending on how large this batch of emails is to delete, you may have to do it in small chunks or Mail might choke.
