New I Watch Won’t Count Walking Towards Activity

I purchased an Apple Watch 4 and walk 3-4 miles daily for exercise. The watch will not count walking towards Activity. I have had the watch less than a week. I have followed help directions to calibrate twice. On both those occasions it seems to count the walk; however, the very next day it no longer will record this as activity. Any suggestions?
