Mc Mini 10 mins to boot

My mother just got. a Mac Mini. When we were setting it up, it did seem to take longer than it should have after we selected the language.

She did not install anything or update or choose to update anything. However, after she shut it down and started it up again later, it wasn’t finished booting after about 10 minites. So, she shut it down with the power button. The next time she turned it on, it didn’t take as long to boot but still a little longer than it should have and she had difficulty logging in. She had to keep re-entering her password, even rhough she was typing it correctly.

Could this be defective?

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).

Yes, I would not expect this type of problem on a new Mac. However, sometimes things like this do happen. Electric devices can have failures at any time. Some happen very soon after starting them and is called infant mortality. Then there are very few failures, until much time happens when you get a lot of failure just because the devices have been used a lot.
