DuckDuckGo causing massive problems in Safari

I am a Mac user who uses Safari in conjunction with Google as my search engine.

A friend suggested I use Mozilla Firefox in conjunction with DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. He set DDG in Mozilla Firefox.

Since then I have been unable to use FB Plug In in Safari on third party websites who use FB Plug Ins to allow readers to comment in the comments section. The particular website I am talking about is The New Daily, an Australian online news publication.

I have tried troubleshooting this issue with Apple over the phone. They've been completely clueless and unhelpful.

Calling all IT geeks who have knowledge of the background changes that DuckDuckGo makes that can affect other browsers.

Please help as I have exhausted all other options.

THANK YOU!

If you are running Firefox and Safari at the same time, if you quit Firefox, does Safari work normally? Are you running any anti-virus programs?

Have you tried the Safe Mode to see if the problem exists there?

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply        Pastebin

DuckDuckGo still is too new and is not trustworthy enough to get around bugs and be interoperable with other Apps as of yet.

Restoring from a Time Machine Backup: First and foremost, prior to any installation and update, use Time Machine to create a backup of your Mac. Doing so, you can recover your Mac from a backup. If you already have one, then restore from it. Always creating one a storing one on an external drive. In all, you can workaround installation bugs, such as this.

Once the Time Machine has been created, uninstall Firefox and see if this problem persists.

Also, create a new user Admin user, and see if this still occurs. If not, then it only pertains this current user you are in. You would configure this Admin User in Users & Groups, which is found in System Preferences.

You don't seem to understand.

The issue is a COMPATIBILITY ISSUE BETWEEN SAFARI AND DUCKDUCKGO.

I am fully aware that DDG is not an Apple product. Thanks for stating the obvious.

Do you work for Apple?

If not and you have nothing useful to add to the conversation please disengage. Because your behaviour could be categorised as trolling right now.

Thank you.

Safari is from Apple but not the search engine.

How the search engine work is the responsibility of the developer. They decide what can be done or not.

If you still don't understand, I'm sorry for you.

Another point: You have sign up in this user to user technical forum.

FYL: Who cares how you categorised, I will stop wasting my time on you. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

But DuckDuckGo has been around for years now and Apple endorsed its use way back in 2014, an eternity in IT terms.

I don't have a recent back up in order to restore previous settings.

I already deleted Firefox to no avail. The bug is still present.

Strangely the changes were made in Firefox installing DDG as the default search engine only. Yet the bug now appears in Safari only (not Chrome or Firefox) when using FB Plug Ins. DDG has affected how Safari interacts with FB Plug Ins. I know this sounds strange but I've spent 3 hours on the Phone with Apple Care today - two different senior consultants - and we were unable to find a fix.

The fix may be in the coding.

I need an IT Geek who has the time and patience to do some hard core investigating using lateral thinking and curiosity to find a fix. This one is way outside the box.

Safari is a web browser, Google is my search engine.

You're the one who doesn't understand. Feel sorry for yourself.

Please refrain from further comments. Because yes, you are not being helpful.

And for others reading here I am using a Safari browser with Google search engine, MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave 14.10.3.

I changed my default search engine in Mozilla Firefox from Google to DuckDuckGo on the advice of a friend. I then decided I wanted to stick with Safari and Google which was working for me just fine.

In alternating the default search engine in Firefox to DDG it has now caused issues in Safari only, no other browser (ie Google Chrome or Firefox). And that issue is that Facebook Plug Ins are not working in Safari/Google.

I think I've explained it clearly enough for anyone to understand pretty clearly. Happy to answer questions. But I'd prefer if you are not genuinely willing able to listen and process information that you refrain from engaging and especially refrain from the put downs.

Thanks.

I am not running Safari and Firefox at the same time. Safari has quit working normally in conjunction with Plug Ins no matter what programs I am running. I don't use Firefox. My friend suggested I try it and then he told me how to set DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. After that Facebook Plug Ins stopped working in Safari but they do work in Chrome and Firefox.

I don't want to use Firefox, never have. What I am trying to do is reverse whatever changes DuckDuckGo made to my operating system, because clearly it did, as FB Plug Ins were working just fine prior to the change.

Only Safari seems to have been affected but Safari is my preferred browser.

These instructions are beyond my technical capability, but thanks for the info.
