Has Apple Pay which charged my card on file with apple disappeared in favor of Apple Pay cash?

Has Apple Pay disappeared in favor of Apple Pay cash? the former used to charge the credit card I had on file with Apple... this new iteration seems to work more like a prepaid debit card... is it possible to revert?

Just got an email from Apple today with these two links:

  1. Transfer money from Apple Pay Cash to your debit card or bank account - Apple Support
  2. Send, receive, and request money with Apple Pay - Apple Support

"Introducing Apple Pay Cash Instant Transfer

With Instant Transfer, you can now quickly transfer money from your Apple Pay Cash balance to an eligible Visa debit card in Wallet. Instant Transfers generally are processed within minutes of your request, but could take up to 30 minutes.* A 1% fee (with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum fee of $10) is deducted from the amount of each instant transfer.

You can still transfer money from your Apple Pay Cash balance using an ACH bank transfer and receive it in your bank account within 1 to 3 business days.* There are no fees to transfer money from Apple Pay Cash to your bank account using an ACH bank transfer."

"Ending support for sending money using credit cards

Starting on March 25, 2019, we will no longer support using credit cards to fund person to person payments. This will ensure Apple Pay Cash customers never have to worry about cash advance fees that may be charged by issuing banks.

You can continue to send money for free with Apple Pay, with no fees at all, using your debit card or your Apple Pay Cash balance."

Previously, these purchases were billed to my default credit card on file with Apple under my Apple I D and used for purchases in the Apple store as well as on iTunes, iBooks, , etc. i’m asking if this functionality is now gone as where it used to have an Apple Pay virtual card in the wallet it has now been replaced with an Apple Pay cash card. (wondering if it’s gone away because of apple introducing their own credit card this month )

It sounds to me like your "Default Card" has been changed. Perhaps: Manage the cards that you use with Apple Pay - Apple Support may help you determine which card is your default card.

Since Apple has not yet offered their own credit card, there should be no changes to the Apple Pay Cash procedure.

That wasn’t my question. I’m clear about Apple Pay cash being used for a person to person payments. What I was inquiring about, is using Apple Pay to pay in retail outlets Or for purchases online. There has been no change to my default card. You are confusing the Apple Pay cash function (whereby you can send cash to other people) with the Apple Pay function which allowed you to use the digital wallet on your phone or watch to pay retail charges (both in person and online) va the default credit card which you had linked to Apple Pay. I have never used Apple Pay Cash, which is a fairly recent introduction, but have been using ApplePay for years which has charged my American Express Card. I used ApplePayjusttwo days ago in the supermarket via my watch.

Yesterday, when I opened the digital wallet to view tickets I had added, an Apple Pay CashCard popped up and asked me to register it. It had nothing to do with the previous ApplePay. It wants you to load cash into the card (like a prepaid debit card and it looks like they are charging 1% to transfer money to the card. (It’s Kind of like a Starbucks card where you add money to the card before you use it...)

my question, again, is the ApplePay Cash card (the prepaid card) replacing the former Apple Pay function which was linked to a default credit card with charges passed through to that linked card? I assume that when Apple releases its own credit card this summer, if you have one then that will become your default credit card. I also can see the need for the Apple Cash (prepaid) Card as I suppose some people will not qualify for Apple’s credit card and will need a prepaid card but this suggests that the current Apple Pay option, which is to have Apple Pay linked to you AmericanExpressor other personal credit card, may no longer exist. My question concerns whether this option is going (or with the intro of theCashCard already gone)away?

No.

Apple Pay will continue to work as it has.

Apple Pay Cash is (and has been since December) a separate service. However, it can be used as an additional payment method in Apple Pay, but there is no requirement to do so.

You can choose to not set it up, if you don't want to.

Apple Pay will continue to charge whatever payment method you have set as a default, unless you select a different one when paying.

Has Apple Pay which charged my card on file with apple disappeared in favor of Apple Pay cash?
