iMac Upgrade

Can my iMAC (27 inch, Mid-2011) support more than 16GB of RAM? The Apple support web page says Max Memory is 16GB...just wondering if maybe there is some chance it can take more (e.g., 4 x 8GB SO-DIMM, if they're even available). Thanks

You should run /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app and check the Memory tab. Run all your typical apps at the same time and see if you are using Swap. You don't want to use Swap. Upgrade your RAM so that your typical RAM usage does not exceed your physical RAM available and spill over into Swap memory, which is much slower memory space allocated on your hard drive. I am running 16GB on my 2010 iMac and never use any Swap memory.

Yes, it can support up to 32GB of RAM. Macsales.com makes a kit for that. Here is the link to their site for your paticular iMac:

Most experienced users on these forums only use macsales.com or crucial.com RAM as iMacs are very sensitive to RAM. Both vendors supply very high quality products, have reasonable pricing and provide excellent service.
