iPhone Xs - Voiceover accidentally turned on, now screen won’t work

Voiceover somehow turned on, when trying to login to turn off the screen wont come on. I can hear the voiceover when tapping on the screen. When I restart it by pressing on the vol up then vol down and then the right button, it will restart and I can see the locked screen for about 2 seconds before it turns off.

I miss my 6s, totally hating the face recognition... when I look at my phone to make sure it’s locked, it unlocks.

Do you have Siri set to work when the phone is locked? If so, invoke Siri and say, "Turn off VoiceOver".

You can lock your phone by tapping the power button.
