Apple Watch showing spurious EXTRA activity

my Apple Watch 3 has started to show extra activity. This morning I went for a 1.07 mile walk, where I had used the Outdoor Walk function. But the Activity app noted that walk and said I had put in over 5,000 steps and 2.25 miles total (I should have taken a screenshot).

i know I didn’t walk a mile inside my house that AM, because I had been sitting at my computer.

a few days ago, it had done something similar, saying that I had travelled 3 miles when I only ran 1 mile.

i calibrated my watch at the beginning, but could these extra miles be a calibration error? I have had this watch about 1 year (a warranty replacement after first one broke). I also noticed the battery barely makes it through 15 hours of wearing.

I updated my Apple Watch 3 to 5.2 and my iphone to 12.2. It didn't make any difference.

My watch Activity continues to show an excessive amount of extra activity. Here's a screenshot that shows I ran a total of 3.25 miles (which is true), but that my distance for the day was 6.56 miles. In the screenshots, you can see that the green exercise graph shows very little activity after my noon-time run.

I scrolled through the daily Activity on my phone, and it appears that almost everyday, the Watch is reporting Move activity of about 400 calories and 3 miles (7,000 steps). Unless I go work in an office for the day, which drops Move activity about half. It's hard to believe I am that active, but I guess the watch is consistent.

I checked the Health app, and it is almost the exact same data as in the Activity app.

Thank you for trying to help, seanfromllanelli, but I ended up typing 2 weeks of Activity data into a spreadsheet. I confirmed that the Activity app is indeed over-estimating Steps and Distance that it adds for Move activities (activity where the heart rate does not reach an Exercise level). On days that I go run, the Activity app gives me double the steps for Move calories that it does on days when I am sedentary or exercise on the bike, elliptical, or stair stepper.

So bottom line, the Steps and Distance in the Activity app are way off. I only trust the distance that is tracked by the GPS when you are in running or walking mode.

yes i understand Move (steps) is separate from Exercise (runs).

In the above screenshots, the Activity app is telling me I am running 3 miles and moving an additional 3 miles.

In general it is telling me that I am Moving about 3 miles everyday, which seems kind of high, but maybe I am really that active.

I would have to wear an additional activity watch such as a Garmin to compare, but I guess I will just accept the Watch's number for now.

It would be helpful if other people commented on the Move Activity reported on their watches.
