Mail not sending iMac runningElCapitan

Hi, hope someone can help

On an iMac both running El Capitan suddenly Mail will not send any emails. Incoming are great. It seems not to like the smtp server settings.

same account running on two different laptops and another iMac running Majovie are all OK.

Settings have been checked and double checked - all Ok.

Account was set up on another laptop using the same settings - works perfectly.

I therefore thought that something may have happened on offending iMac, so I deleted the email account.

When i try to recreate the account, i get a "account already exists" error message, although I have deleted the account.

I did see a very quick error message flash up once about being unable to send the password to smtp server securely.

Am using 993 incoming and have tried both 587 and 465 to no avail.

Have tried setting up using np-secured, still no luck

Am now out of ideas - can anyone advise me please?

Thanks

Alex

Thanks for your post. Have tried that - to no avail. Had a great sessions with Apple Support who suggested to upgrade OS to High Sierra - didn't realise that a 2011 iMac could run that. It seems that El Capitan had a few issues with Mail, especially with large volume accounts.

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts /Account Information. Select an account, then go to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). From the drop down menu select Edit SMPT server list. See if the account is listed there. If so, delete the SMTP server for the account. Try to add the Mail account again.

You can also check System Preferences/Internet Accounts to see if the account is there.
