Ipod Touch will not connect to my Kenwood KDC X993 Car Stereo via usb

I purchased my Kenwood KDC X993 car stereo last year because it is Ipod / Ipohone compatible. I used to use it all the time with my Ipod Touch until I installed iOS 4. Since the upgrade my ipod touch gets an error every time i try to connect and my stereo just keeps saying "downloanding".

I went into the Apple store yesterday and told the rep at the Genius bar my problem. He took my Ipod touch and did a complete restore hoping that this would fix the problem. It did not. He then told me that I needed to go to Kenwood directly to get an update for my stereo. I went to www.kenwoodusa.com and looked for this "update" and there is no such thing.

Is there anyway I can get my Ipod touch to work with my car stereo again? Please help.

You're not alone, other accessories were affected by the iOS 4 update (Apple should make it clear that the update may affect compatibility with non-Apple accessories). You're not likely going to get a Kenwood update, but it's possible (but perhaps not likely) that a future 4.x OS release from Apple will fix this.

Your best bet might be to search for ways to step back down to 3.x, but those methods are not typically discussed here due to forum rules about hacking the device.

Thanks for the info. I'd love to go back down to os3. Do you have any idea how to do that? When I was in the store I asked if it was possible and they told me No.

Do a Google search on "DFU mode", which may allow you to step back down to a prior revision (try 3.1.2 if you ever downloaded that version from a prior update).

I have the exact same problem with a similar model Kenwood head unit. I just bought it recently and I cant believe its not working with the 4.0 update. Let me know if anyone finds a solution, other than the hard reset, and Ill let you know what I find out.
