Does anyone know how to get Siri Shortcuts to work in Carplay with third party apps such as WAZE and Google Maps?

I've created shortcuts to open WAZE and to open Google Maps. Also, to allow voice input for destination with each of the two apps. If outside of Carplay I initiate with a voice command from Siri everything works perfectly, however, If I initiate via with voice command from Carplay I consistently get the error "There was a problem with the app". Any help is much appreciated.
