Have a late 2013 iMac with the hard drive going.
Looking for recommendations, at least 2T, preferably a hybrid like Apple's Fusion Drive.
FWIW, it's running the latest version of Mojave.

Check with MacSales.com for SSD drives for a replacement. What model ID is your Mac?
If it's an older iMac I think I'd opt for an external SSD connected by Thunderbolt, USB 3 or Firewire 800 and boot from it. Then you can erase your internal boot drive and use is for storage. If your Mac has USB 3 then that's what I'd get. Thunderbolt drives are very expensive.
That way when you upgrade your Mac you can take the SSD along for an external storage HD. Also a 21.5" iMac is difficulty to open and replace drives. You might have to pay an Authorized Apple Service Provider to do the work and it won't be inexpensive. MacSales have excellent choices for an external SSD.
