You want an app to identify the potential duplicates, put them in an album or mark them with a keyword for easy retrieval and deletion by yourself. I've run tests on the following apps with these results::

PhotoSweeper - $9.99 - Demo version available.

PowerPhotos - $29.95

PowerPhotos is the iPhoto Library Manager version for Photos and is very powerful. Although more expensive I would recommend it as it has more capabilities than the others like the capability to merge Photos libraries or copy photos along with their metadata between libraries.

PhotoSweeper compares bitmaps and/or histograms so it can detect duplicate images even if they have different sizes, file names, sizes and capture dates.

Thanks for the information! But I also found I could sort in "photos" folder, and found most of my duplicates.

JUST A NOTE: This was an update from iPhoto on a 2008 iMac. So far I still like iPhoto way better than Photos app. I have lost all my comments that I put in the info on iPhotos when they went into Photos app.

thanks again!

Terry

It is strange, that the comments you added to your photos have been lost, when the iPhoto Library has been migrated to Photos. When I add titles, descriptions, or keywords in iPhoto 9.6.1, and Photos is opening the library and creating a Photos Library from it, the titles, descriptions, keywords for the photos will be saved.

But the descriptions of the albums and the events will be missing, because Photos does not support descriptions for albums, and there are no events in Photos. They have been replaced by Moments, and Moments do not have a description.

I copied the descriptions of the albums and events to the description of the key photos to save them. and I kept all iPhoto Libraries, so I am still able to look up metadata, that couldn't be transferred, also to have a backup of the original image files.

If you get yourself the free trial version of PowerPhotos, you can browse your Photos Library in a second window, provided by PowerPhotos. The PowerPhotos window can show you more information below the thumbnails. It also can show the photos in a list view, with the metadata in columns, and you can sort by this metadata. The info pane is in a fixed place , embedded in the window. Starting PowerPhotos up takes a long time, however. I am simply starting it in the morning and keep it open.
