how do I delete previously used wifi networks on my MacBook?

I am having issues with my device trying to connect to an unsecure network instead of my home secure network. I have moved up the home secure network to first on the list but it still defaults to one of the other insecure networks. How do I delete them from my list?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.12

On that same screen (i.e., Apple menu > System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced) select the network and then click the minus button that is immediately below the pane with the list of networks.
