Why does my phone split up multimedia messages?

The threads hi-lighted in red are the same person. For some reason when I send this person a picture or link, it splits it into a different thread with the phone # and it’ll display the number with that weird diamond thing after the area code. Any idea why it does this? This is the only contact it happens with, I send photos to others and they work fine, just the one contact does this.
