Creating a private chat room in iMessage

Is it possible to create a private chat room for six people using Message? If so, do they all need to be iPhone users or can non-iPhone users participate? Thanks.

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 12

By definition all messages sent through iMessage are private. iMessage does not have chat rooms as such, but can let you create Group Messages.

iMessage is only for users of Apple devices. They don't need to be iPhone's but they need to be Apple devices if you want the Group Message to be an iMessage group. (blue bubbles)

If they are using Android Phones, or other non Apple devices capable of receiving SMS (green bubbles), then you can create a group SMS and invite them to it.
