Just got the new mini 5 and I need to buy a case for it. My sister has a mini and it’s a bit smaller, but I don’t know which version it is. I have been told the mini 4 cases will fit the 5, is that true?

The main difference between an iPad mini 4 and 5 is the location of the back microphone. On the 4 it’s by the back camera lens, on the 5 it’s in the middle back. So while the dimensions are exactly the same, putting a 4 case on a 5 will block that microphone.

Another poster last week, who had iPad Mini 4, just upgraded to Mini 5. The case (actual case) they had for their 4 fit the 5 just fine. Both devices share the same exact dimensions. On Amazon, sellers are selling cases saying they fit iPad Mini 4 and Mini 5.
The iPad Mini smart cover (not case) fits both fourth and fifth generation iPad Mini.
I should have commented that the microphone is now in the top middle of the back. For whatever reason, the person who moved up to the Mini 5 last week, wasn't concerned about that at all.

I wouldn't care. I don’t shoot video on the ipad so the back mic is just ‘there’ if I were to get one.
But its’ amazing how many people I see lugging their ipads around using them like a video camera.
This is how I use my large iPad Pro.
What is nice using iPads for video and for taking images is that you get the huge screen as a viewfinder and the size makes it possible to hold it more steady by lockkng your elbows or hold them against your body or outstretching and locking your arms. Then use your whole body to slowly pan around or walk slowly to zoom in and out of a scene.
