I cannot sync an audiobook from a CD saved to my computer, in my itunes over to my phone

I have downloaded an audiobook from a CD, saved it to my computer, added it to my iTunes library but it will not sync over to my phone. I am unable to drag it into my phone, I have tried everything but nothing works. I have now spent hours on this and it is so frustrating!!!!

That doesn't sound correct. Do you mean it has a "genre" of Audiobook?

Check the screenshot below, of a song in my Music Library. Even if the genre section (I've marked) states Audiobook, that does not make it an Audiobook.

That field denotes a genre - a style of music or the type of story. Let's look at the media kind for this song, on the Options tab:

To be an Audiobook, the media kind of Audiobook, such as in the screenshot below:

In the example above (Orphans In Waiting), this will be listed in the Audiobooks section of my iTunes Library. It will not appear under Music. The genre (or type of story) of this audiobook is a thriller, as noted below:

Before we can go any further, we need to establish which part of your Library this audiobook-from-CD is located. If it is in the Music section of your Library, you need to decide whether that is acceptable to you, or whether you want to move it into the Audiobooks section. There are advantages to having audiobooks in the correct section. Once that is sorted, we can ensure that it appears on your iPod in the correct place.

So, where does your audiobook currently appear, in Music or in Audiobooks?

It was imported into the music section, but it is listed as an audiobook. I went in to edit it but it already said audiobook. I can play it through iTunes on my computer but I cannot get it to show up on my iPhone.

It is not letting my sync anything from my computer to my phone. I can sync over information from my iPhone to my computer. When I try it is just transferring over my podcasts.

The audiobook is listed including the cover and all of the information in my iTunes library on my computer but I cannot add it to the library on my phone under audiobook or under music. There is no cloud symbol next to it like there is with my music, so I am unable to upload it to the cloud either.

First of all, was this a commercially CD or a home burnt one? Does the media that you imported into your iTunes Library play in iTunes and if so, where?

I'm choosing my wording deliberately. Not to confuse you, but to be clear.

  • A commercially produced CD will be an audio CD, even if the media on it is an audiobook
  • The audio on it is usually known as media - again, whether it's a music band or an audiobook
  • If you imported "audio material" - or "media" (music, or an audiobook) from a commercially produced CD, iTunes will add it to the Music part of your Library, not the Audiobooks part. So is it under Music and does it play in iTunes? If you then copy it over to your iPhone (iPod, iPad), it will be in the Music Library on your phone.

Unless you specifically change the media type, anything you import from CD is Music.

The alternative is that the "CD" was in fact an MP3 disc, which means that it is a data CD with audio files on it. Very different.
