AIFC audio file?

I created an AIFC audio recording in QT. When I tried to add it to the timeline, it gave me the "Unknown video type" in the video selection dialog. Not sure why it thinks there is a video track. I tried to unlink audio and video, but that choice is greyed out. This is just an audio file that I want to edit by itself, without anything else on the timeline. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is this the first clip that you are adding to your empty timeline?

If your project is created (as is the default) with Automatic Settings, the first clip is used to determine the frame size and frame rate. But you are adding just audio, hence the reply.

When creating your project, switch to custom settings and choose the frame size and frame rate you want. Then you won't see the message.

The "AIFC" file extension is a compressed version of the "AIFF" format. As Tom here said before me, it's highly recommended to work with uncompressed files in editing applications. I'd suggest going with AIFF or WAV (my personal preference is WAV for everything audio). Try converting it to any of those formats, and in the future, export WAV or AIFF files to begin with to avoid trouble. Cheers!

Yes, this was the first clip added to the timeline. I’m coming from Premiere Elements, where I have gotten used to being able to do a quick edit of a stand-alone audio track without opening Amadeus Pro or Twisted Wave. I typically add a separate clean audio track to my projects after assembling the clips in a “B roll” style, keeping the total length the same as the original take (I video set shows that are exactly the same every time they run). I’m excited about learning FCPX, especially the multi cam functions as PE doesn’t support that function. Thanks for all the good info!
