iPhone XR power button annoying

Having been an iPhone 3G, 4 and 4S owner, for the most part I like my new iPhone XR. Aside from it being far too big and Face ID only working when it feels like it, there is one really annoying thing. Why did Apple relocated the power button to the side of the phone, at the exact point I hold the phone to pick it up. I’m constantly inadvertently taking screen shots when picking it up or adjusting the volume. Or I end up cancelling calls when I take the phone out of my pocket or activating Siri or stopping a video recording when holding it in landscape. Arrrgghhh !

From a design point of view, I think the power button should have stayed at the top. Does anyone else find the side power button super annoying or is it just me ?

Is there a case out there that makes it harder to accidentally press this button, otherwise I think I’ll have to sell the phone and look for something else.

The power button moved to the side 5 years ago, with the iPhone 6. The reason it can't be on top is because the top of the phone is needed for the camera and the NFC chip that supports Apple Pay. And on the X series the IR cameras that scan your face. There is just no room up there for a physical button.

My Face ID works 100% of the time; it has never failed to unlock my phone. And that is not an exaggeration. If yours doesn't you should look into why it doesn't. You can start here-->If Face ID is disabled on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

Thanks Lawrence,

That makes sense. I’ve only ever used models up to 4S and a friends SE, so the side button is new to me. When my finger is over the volume, my thumb seems to naturally align with the power button. I’ve reset the Face ID, it seems to work more frequently now, but I’d say still only 70% of the time. I may need to take it into a store to be checked.

thanks

Thanks Serge,

I was wondering if it’s just me, as I’ve never heard anyone else complaining about it. I trigger things mostly when I’m picking the phone up (palm down) and not so much when just holding it. I’m thinking it might be the case I’ve got is amplifying the sensitivity of the button. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate that.
