Can I upgrade the SSD in my MacBook Pro?

I have a 13" MacBook Pro 2016 with a 500GB drive, which I need to upgrade to 1TB. Can the Apple Store or a service center do that?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Hi, sucker4status !

The true and literal answer to your question is : yes, Apple or an AASP could perform the upgrade. However, they will only be able to use an Apple part for the upgrade, as that flash drive is proprietary to Apple, and uses a proprietary connector to the logic board. Be prepared for the 1 TB part to be breathtakingly expensive, while the labor will be less so.

Which brings us to the practical answer to your question : No, not really. Unless you have money to burn like it's going out of style, you are far better off purchasing a new MacBook Pro with the capacity you require, or adding storage in the form of an external drive.

Good luck !

The Apple store will not - they would only replace a failed drive with the same capacity.

And, it depends on the exact model of what you have to see if you or an authorized provider could. I would guess not - because not one 2016 model is listed in the "how to" videos at macsales.com (which it would be if it was possible).
