Handoff is preventing sleep

I'm on macOS 10.14.4, and I just noticed my Mac mini has not been sleeping for quite a while. I've narrowed it down to the Handoff feature (sharingd shows as "Preventing Sleep") when it's enabled. This seems kind of overkill. Is there some way to keep Handoff enabled but allow my machine to sleep?

Hello CaptSaltyJack,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand your Mac mini hasn't been going to sleep lately and you think it's because of the Handoff feature. I am happy to help.

"Pick up where you left off with Handoff on Mac

With Handoff, you can start something on one device (Mac, iOS, or Apple Watch) and then pick it up on another without losing focus on what you’re doing. For example, look at a webpage on your iPhone, then pick up where you left off in Safari on your Mac. You can use Handoff with many Apple apps—for example, Calendar, Contacts, Pages, or Safari. Some third-party apps may also work with Handoff."

I don't think that it is the handoff feature that is preventing it from going to sleep. Try the steps in the article below to put the Mac to sleep.

If you use the terminal and type:

pmset -g assertions

you would indeed see that Handoff is preventing sleep. So, your suggestion is right. Also, disabling Handoff does remove this status. But re-enabling Handoff doesn’t instantly change the status back to 1. So I’m not sure as to what exactly triggers it. Also I didn’t experience this issue prior to installing the latest update to MacOS Mojave (10.14.4).
