'Increase database size?' pop up in Safari

I keep getting this pop up in safari when using google as the default search engine on an ipad, asking me whether to increase the database size by 5MB (I don't get it when I change the search engine in settings, but ideally I would like to continue to use google as the search engine).

Regardless of whether I tap 'cancel' or 'increase', safari just displays it again when I search for something. I have tried a hard reset, clearing website data, clearing cookies, closing safari etc. but it didn't help.

Any suggestions please?

Google is most likely using Web SQL DB functionality and iOS Safari is programmed by default to prompt in 5mb intervals. The maximum size for these types of databases is 50mb. Eventually you should stop being prompted unless you are clearing Safari data and then you would have to start the process all over again. You could try deactivating Web SQL under Settings > Safari > Advanced > Disable Web SQL. This may have adverse effects on some websites functionality; however, Google may have programmed around browsers that don’t support Web SQL databases.

You previously mentioned that you cleared Website Data and History. Could you check and see if there is a panel called “Databases” under Settings > Safari

If that panel is listed could you try deleting any Google related databases that may not be clearing otherwise?

May I ask if you are running the latest version of iOS. Also, do you have plenty of storage space available?

Wanted to make a correction to my previous post. On further research Web SQL seems to be deprecated in forms of other database storage for websites liked IndexedDB so my previous advice most likely wouldn’t help. As far as I know there is no work around for permanently increasing the maximum size on mobile Safari as opposed to Desktop Safari.

Thanks, but I cannot find the thread on that. There was a thread from some time back where tapping 'increase' resolved the issue, but here tapping 'increase' or 'cancel' doesn't stop the message from popping up again. It freezes for about 10 seconds before the message pops up each time as well.

Thanks for the responses. I thought I would try pressing the increase button a number of times anyway but the message still appears. Arrghh its annoying, it freezes each time as well.

Not sure why its just started happening though? I have also had this ios version for sometime without any problems.

There was a thread on this subject a few days ago. I don't remember if any permanent solution was found, but do a search over the last few days and you'll find it.

Tried resetting ipad then restoring from backup in itunes, but it didnt help.

Is anyone able to assist please?
