mail keeps freezing

Apart from the mail app does the mac run smoothly?

What version of OS are you using?

Have you run a "first aid" on the mac?

How much free storage do you have on your mac? I find that if my mac has little to no storage left some of the applications freeze.

Per chance do you have many messages in any one email account or multiple accounts that you use with the Mail app? Has this always been an issue or just started to happen?
